Media Project in School
Oppilaat Tove Christensen and Krista Virantti
We started cooperating with the Brahenpuisto School in the spring of 2016.
The school served as a center of expertise for people with special linguistic difficulties in Helsinki. The meeting was attended by Marjaana Manninen, Rector of the educational institution, Päivi Nieminen, on behalf of our association, and Sari Laine, Communications Designer, and Operations Developer.

The project took the form of small group work with two children at a time and two present supervisors. It was a media club because participation was voluntary. The students participated in the class by changing up to a maximum of two students at a time.

The club was led by teacher Jenni Juhola, from our association Luovaa Uutta Voimaa ry Sari Laine and Vesa Vattulainen. The idea for the project came from 10-year-old Krista Virantti, a student at the school.

The purpose of this pilot project was to find out what kind of teaching is suitable for special children. We decided to try how we do practical media work and get to know the history of the industry until today.

We decided to encourage children, especially when it comes to planning and implementation. The directors themselves are in the background as much as possible.

We started the project by discussing the history of the media: how communication between people began and what it was before mobile phones, the internet, telephones, etc.

At the first meeting, it was decided to create a newspaper. The students voted anonymously.

The students and Vesa Vattulainen visited the Päivälehti Museum in Helsinki, where they could get acquainted with printing presses and try for example. use of interactive news boards.

The pilot project was completed at the end of spring 2016.

This project was carried out as a voluntary activity.
The product was Anonymous Magazine.
