Support Person Activity: Mother and Child

Päivi, who is a volunteer at Luovaa uutta voimaa ry, Kreativ ny kraft rf, has helped a single parent and her small child with a difficult life for almost two years. The support has been provided through discussions and support on practical issues.

Päivi found the person through her own networks.
-I'm helping when the help of the city offers is not enough, says Päivi.
Päivi has been helping the mother with her baby since the baby was two months old. The young mother was struggling with the economy. The relationship with the child's father was not good.

-I am taking care of the child when the mother meets the children's supervisor so that the mother can talk in peace. I have given support in situations when the child has switched between the parents. Looking that it goes smoothly.

-The young mother suffers from many different diseases. Physical illness limits her ability to move. She cannot travel by public transport because of her illness and does not have a car. This has led to isolation.
- Isolation has caused social fear, which in turn has to panic disorders.

Helping them is great and Päivi does not want a tight framework for her activities.
-I have been taking to them baby care items, toys, Christmas tree and brought empty bottles to the store.

Practical work has included organizing, cleaning and washing dishes.
-I try to activate self-confidence within the framework where possible in relation to her illness. I don't do everything for her.

The expenses must be paid for by the financial support that the mother receives.
I pay for my car costs myself.

- I will continue to be a support person. I think it is right to help people who need it.
